I am pleased to announce that I have begun mentoring with Justin Mott, a very successful commercial photographer based in Vietnam. Justin’s style is rooted in documentary photography, having shot over 100 assignments for The New York Times. He runs his own production company, Mott Visuals, through which he works with such clients as the IHG Hotels Group. He is also a devoted teacher, YouTuber, and mentor to many. I will be further honing my skills with him over the next several months.
As a part of travel photography, I have decided to add a new trip to my calendar next year. In August 2027, I will be flying out to Zambia, South Africa for a safari expedition. It’s funny, I was never really excited about traveling to Africa, but I started mulling it over and figured I wouldn’t possibly get another opportunity to make this trip. I am quite excited with the idea of visiting a local Zambian village and producing a photo-documentary. And, of course, I cannot wait to see the elephants, lions, leopards and giraffes up close in the bush.
I had a wonderful photoshoot this past week with James Trombka. We worked on the streets of Kent to capture some great images thanks to James’ modeling techniques. You can view his gallery here, and his photograph is below.
Lastly, I tested my digital file back-up system for my travels, and everything just worked perfectly. What I am doing is running a CF Express Type A card reader to an external dock, while also connecting it to a battery power source and a ProGrade 2TB external disk drive, with the external dock connected to my iPad. File transfer from the digital card to the hard drive was simple using the iPad’s file system, and then connecting the hard drive to my Mac Studio and downloading the files into Lightroom CC also worked like a charm.
